Dreaming in english

So I had this interesting dream last night. Have been thinking about it multiple times throughout the day, and then suddenly it hit me, that the whole dream was in english. So I started thinking about this and I'm pretty sure it's something that happens from time to time. I just thought that was kind of funny, weird, interesting. Ofcourse it makes sense, since I spend a lot of the day writing, reading, hearing english. I wonder what controls this..

Computer upgrade

In April I started seriously concidering upgrading my computer. The parts that needs upgrading are the motherboard, cpu and ram. So a big and costly affair. Along with that I'll also be getting an aftermarked cooler for a quieter computer and overclocking capabilities, as I'll probably be trying that out. Aswell as a new case with more modern features, such as better cable management, left turned harddrive bays ect. Also it will probably be time for my yearly new harddrive. As I said I started thinking about it in April but soon decided to wait untill after the summer, as I won't be using it when at parents place for summer and such, and hopefully prices will fall a bit.

So this is what I'm looking at, at the moment:
  • Case: Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced
  • Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
  • CPU: Phenom II X4 955 or 965
  • RAM: 2x2 gb Crucial BallistX
  • Cooler: Zalman CNPS 9900 MAX (unreleased)
The CM 690 II case is the only one with the features and structure that I want, and also looks good, while still leaving room for case modding as I'll be trying out. Therefore the color of the parts is also playing a factor when choosing them, ofcourse as long as it doesn't comprimise quality. The motherboard is a pretty expensive one and maybe a bit overkill, but I'm choosing it because of the nice color scheme, built in X-Fi soundcard, nice auto overclocking features and it has the newest chipset and futureproofed with stuff like USB 3 and SATA 3 ect. Was looking at the Zalman CNPS 9900 NT at first because of the nice look and color fitting my color scheme, and ofcourse good reviews, then saw a new version was comming which seems to fix the few bad things mentioned about it in reviews. The 965 CPU was in April when I started looking the best AMD on the marked, and still an affordable price (later the 6 core has been released, but it's still pretty expensive). However some say the 955 is pretty much as good, especially when overclocking, so might aswell save the 200DKK. The Crucial RAM is getting good reviews and still close to the cheapest ones. Was going for 8gb at first, but a Tom's Hardware article about RAM requirements made me change my mind to 4gb. More is only really needed if using multiple big applications like photoshop at once, which is quite rare for me, and can always upgrade later ofcourse.

Still might change some ofcourse if pricing changes, but I think this is very close to what I'll be getting. Might get the case and start casemodding while at my parents place for summer so I can use my fathers tools and such. The rest will probably be in August, September or when I have the money (so 2014).

Summer todo list

These are the things that I've thought about maybe doing during the summer
  • Sell my moped
  • Start out with some case modding
  • Work on project "NAVOK"
  • Finish EOL site
  • Watch FIFA World Cup
  • Watch Tour De France
Hopefully I'll get around to doing all of it.

New design

Got kind of bored with the old design of the blog, so used blogger's new design tool thing to create this design. Hopefully that will encourage me to write some more ;-)

Eurovision Song Contest 2010

I think the final was maybe the best show ever ;o Apart from about a handfull of songs they were all really good in my opinion. I really liked german song aswell so I'm really happy it won. Was considering betting money on it but was already minus 200€ in my account so couldn't afford loosing anything :/ There were so many good songs so I voted four times in the final, on Germany, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.

I was kinda of afraid it would be a bad final with some really bad song going to final like the isreali, russian, greece and belgium songs, and a couple of good ones not going to final like the swedish, finnish and latvian. However still a lot of good ones in final as I said.

The waiting-for-votes show was really nice this year aswell, for once it was actually not totally boring to watch. The voting was exciting aswell, not the first place, but the fight for second place, especially with Denmark in the fight. As for the danish song I really like it except the chorus which is boring and totally ruins it, too bad caus I really like the other parts of the song.

So all in all a fucking amazing show :)~

Random though on abort

The ethical question on abort can be compared to a heads up Texas Hold 'Em poker game. When you are small blind, or big blind and the other player has raised, you are considering wether you should call or fold. The flop about to come that could make your hand good or bad, can be thought of as both existing and non existing. It doesn't really exist because no one has seen it and the cards are random, so the potential hand you could get doesn't exist before the flop is shown, therefore you do not lose that potential hand if you fold, as it doesn't exist yet.

The same way when a baby is growing inside a belly it is only a potential person. It is only a certain set of genes and a biological animal, there is yet no soul. In my head what makes a person into the person he or she is, is the things that happen around and to him or her, and not the genes which merely is how a person is biologically build. So in that way a baby inside a belly does not exist before it is born.

So in the same way as the poker hand before the flop, one does not lose anything by giving it up.

Samsung B6050 LED TV

For a long time I've been tired of the noobness of my old TV, a Prosonic LCD HDTV 32''. Pixelerror, losing connection from PC, some extreme flickering when watching from antenna ect. So after reading many a reviews, forum entries ect. I was down to choosing between two TVs. The LG L8000 and the Samsung B6050. Both 37''. I visited pretty much all electronic stores in the city to try and find them so I could seem them in real life, found the Samsung a few places but the LG was no where to be found. However some time later when I had a few minutes wait for the bus I went into one of the stores I'd been in before to see if they should have gotten the LG in the meantime and to my luck they had.

After that I decided to go with the Samsung based on it's better design and the fact that the picture quality seemed pretty equal, which is also what different reviews have said, the Samsung bit better at some things and the LG a bit better at other things.

Still didn't buy it right away as I was waiting for a nice offer somewhere. Just before the olympics I discovered I have DR HD, which sent a lot of olympics, but I needed the new TV with digital tuner which my old was lacking to see it, so I decided to buy the new one few days into the olympics.

Is EOL the holy grail?

Milagros has announced he will finish EOL this weekend, after which we'll have a two week testing period with more testers and it will be released. So that means EOL out in mid March if things goes well.

It's been, what? three years? in the making with continuously pushed release dates by mila. I believe he at one point said spring '08? Anyway during this period it has been hyped, forgotten, rehyped and sometimes talked of like the holy grail. But is it all it's cracked up to be?

Being beta tester and designer of the webpage I have been close to the development for the past 1½ years. There has been really A LOT of smaller and bigger updates and features added, more than mila or any tester can remember I'm sure. Big ones are things like cooperative multiplayer, but some of the smaller ones are important aswell, things that will make the daily use more pleasant. This is things like being able to download any level ever played ingame and TCP mode for port forwarding noobs.

However the most important thing maybe is the site, that hopefully will bring people together about more than just the current battle and the last five chat lines. This is what I believe will be what makes or breaks the great succes of EOL, the people. If people doesn't play online all the time and get their stats recorded, if people doesn't use the site to see stats for the levels they play and if people doesn't use the potential of the extensive stats it will just be belma with a couple of new battle modes. On the other hand if people do do all these things and really come together around it, this is not just a new version of belma but more than we ever could have hoped for in Elasto Mania 2.

So it really is up to the people and, well me, and what I make of the site. The holy grail is there, we just have to grab it ;-)

Acer Aspire Timeline 1810tz

My old laptop, a Zepto Znote, broke during the christmas holiday. The graphics card was suddenly totally fucked up, causing the screen to viewed twice on the monitor, on top of each other, and the colors totally fucked up. At first I thought it was the memory as it was also giving some BSOD screens with memery error and taking out one of the ram blocks fixed it. But it turned out it was just random when it happened and eventually it happened again and more and more frequently, untill it was like 95% of the times I turned it on.
It had still waranty but Zepto has recently went bankrupt so not much help in that. Eventhough it's not an onboard graphics card I found out it's integreted in the motherboard, which means it will be quite expensive to get fixed. And seeing as the motherboard had just been replaced a couple of months earlier, for different issue though (that time on warranty as it was before they went bankrupt) I didn't want to spend a lot of money fixing it, if it would just brake again. So I decided to get a new one. Also because I wanted a bit smaller one, and was tired of the old ones noise.

After some research I pretty quickly find the Acer Timeline 1810tz/3810tz to fit my needs perfectly, and at a nice price. This time I went for a much cheaper one, as I don't really need to good hardware I had in the old one, as I mostly use it for uni and when I'm at my parents place. There is an 11.7'' and a 13,3'' version of it, after seeing both of them in local stores I decided on the smaller one, and bought it at wupti.com for 510€.

After recieving it I was immediately reassured I had choosen the right size, it just felt really nice to work with. Today I could debut it at the semester's first lecture.

Night of dreams

Last night I had no less than three dreams I remembered, all somewhat sad and borderline nightmares.

First one was that Abula had closed down the elma scene. How one would do that I'm not sure, but he had decided that it now was time to stop it all. There was a news post on moposite with more than 100 comments and GuyB had made the first comment. I wasn't home on that day I think so saw it the next and got really sad. Almost started crying, but then it turned out it was an aprils fool.

At the second I was at some kind of market or festival or something with some shops and booths, I was going to one of them, not really sure was it was about. However Hitler was still alive and he was coming to that booth aswell with his wife. Somehow I knew he was now 101 years old, and I say hi to him and his wife and shook his hand, which was really fragile because he was so old.

In the third my great grandmother had died and me and my four siblings (3 older brothers, 1 younger sister) where to get the heritage. In the start me and 2 of my brothers were riding around on horses for some reason. We had the will on a piece of paper and someone lost it in the sea or dock or something. That meant we couldn't get the money and we were quite sad. However someone then jumped in the water and got the paper back. A bit later my three brother were talking to the guy who adminstrated the will and it turned out that the money would only be given the three of us that were riding on the horses before for some reason. However my three brothers were trying to get the money for them. I saw they were talking about it and protested, and said I'd be glad to share it will all five of us. Then I don't remember if anymore happened.

On another note the best of 2009 winners will come today or tomorrow, and I turned on word verification for comments, as I've gotten some spam comments lately.

3. semester exams

Right now I'm in the middle of writing my last exam of this fall semester. Had 3 courses, one of them (Work, Media and Interaction) was just be present and pass, the two others had written exams, the first one (Visual Analysis) 12-15 pages and the last (Studium Generale, which is some philosophy thing) which I'm writing now 8-12 pages.

In the first I wrote about the visuel presentation of animals in The Lion King, in this one I write about the philosophers Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn, comparing them and comparing them to positivism. And yes it's boring as hell. 1 page down and due monday.
